Fungi. The cap is ivory to dull grey brown and approx. 15 cm (6 ins.) across. The thick stalk is up to 10 cm (4 ins.) high and is white. The gills are flesh coloured, with a mealy smell.


Some of this species are edible and very similar in appearance so unless positively identified do not eat any.


Breathing difficulties, dizziness, headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. The symptoms usually appear within two hours of consuming and recovery within 24 hours unless severe.

Growing Season

Late Summer to late Autumn.


Rich soil in open deciduous woodland or field edges.
