Fungi. The cap is approx. 10 cm (4 ins.) across, cherry red in colour and sticky when moist. The stalk is white and usually taller than the width of the cap. The gills are cream then pale straw coloured. It smells slightly fruity and has a very hot taste. 


The colour of this fungi is attractive to children and adults but should not be handled.


Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, dizziness and even unconsciousness. It affects different people in various ways.

Growing Season

Summer to late Autumn.


In mossy ground under pine trees.
